Paramedics treat woman with severe breathing problems

Paramedics are transporting a 51-year-old woman who has serious trouble breathing. They found her sitting upright on the stairs, breathing quickly and with shallow, ineffective breaths. Her skin is warm and sweaty, and her heart rate and blood pressure are high. She has a known history of chronic lung disease and may have recently used her inhaler, but cannot say how much or when. Paramedics have placed her on a breathing machine and given her inhaled medicines. Her oxygen level is now normal, an intravenous line is in place, and they are a few minutes away from the hospital.
