Woman with altered mental status taken to hospital

Paramedics went to a home for a 31-year-old woman who suddenly developed altered mental status. Family said she was normal the previous evening but later began twitching, acting strangely, and not making sense, so they called 911. On arrival she was alert but only knew who she was and where she was, showed unusual behavior, and was uncooperative and resisting the crew. She denied recent drug or alcohol use, and family reported no use in the last few hours, though she has a past history of alcohol and drug use, not including meth. Vital signs showed a fast heart rate, elevated breathing rate, and a mild fever. Because she was fighting the crew, they placed her in four-point restraints and gave her medication to calm her, planning to give more when the first dose did not help. They monitored her breathing and oxygen levels and transported her to Scripps Mercy Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
